There's no single right way to build a mobile app. We'll recommend the approach that fits your users, your budget and how the app needs to grow.

React Native

One codebase shipped to both app stores. Our standard for business apps: faster to build, cheaper to maintain, and still able to use the camera, GPS, push notifications and offline storage.

Native components where required

When an app leans hard on device hardware, custom Bluetooth protocols or demanding performance, we write those pieces as native iOS or Android modules inside the React Native app. Native capability without a second codebase.

Mobile web and PWA

No app store at all. A responsive web platform that installs to the home screen is often the best first step, and can grow into a full app later.

App projects go wrong when building starts before anyone agrees on what's being built. Our three-phase process means you tap through every screen and sign it off before a line of production code is written.

Discovery

First, we get to know who will use the app, where, and what they need to get done.

Our Adelaide scoping team runs workshops with your staff and stakeholders, ideally including the people who'll have the app in their hands all day. We map the workflows, the connectivity you can count on and the systems it must talk to, and hand you our detailed findings.

Prototype

Next, our designers turn the findings into a clickable prototype you can run on your own phone.

Every screen, designed to platform conventions so it feels at home on iOS and Android. You tap through the real flows before committing to the build. Alongside it we write a detailed requirements document, so you know exactly what you're getting and what it will take to deliver.

Delivery

Then our developers build, test and publish the app to the App Store and Google Play.

Working from the signed-off prototype and requirements, the team builds the app and the cloud platform behind it. You get test builds on your phone throughout, so nothing on launch day is a surprise. We handle the store listings, review process and release.

The mobile app puts the core features in firefighters' hands: request a pickup, check a garment's history and identify items by scanning their barcode with the phone's camera, with no need to log in to the web platform.

Do we need an app, or would a mobile-friendly website do?

Honestly, sometimes a website is enough. If your users need the camera, GPS, barcode scanning, push notifications or the app to work with no signal, that's when a real app earns its place. We'll tell you which we'd recommend during Discovery, even if the answer is “not an app yet”.

Do you build for both iOS and Android?

Yes. We build in React Native and publish to both the App Store and Google Play from one codebase. Where an app relies heavily on device hardware we add native iOS or Android components for those parts.

Will it work without mobile reception?

If your people work where the signal drops out, we design for it from day one. The app stores work locally and syncs photos, forms and updates automatically when a connection returns, so nothing is lost and nobody has to remember to “send” anything.

How long does a mobile app take to build?

As a guide: Discovery usually takes 2–4 weeks, Prototype 4–6 weeks, and Delivery 2–3 months, including app store review. You'll be tapping through a prototype on your own phone well before development begins.

Who publishes the app, and who owns it?

You do. We publish under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, so the app, its reviews and its users belong to your business. We handle the listings, screenshots and the review process for you.

What about the backend the app talks to?

We build that too. Every app we ship sits on a secure cloud platform, usually with a web portal for the office and integrations with tools like Xero. If you already have a system, we'll connect to it. See our custom software development and integration services.

What happens once the app is live?

We stick around. Apple and Google change the rules every year, and your business will have new ideas. Our client support and managed hosting keep the app and its platform secure, current and improving.
